The German company BMW announced that it will invest 1.7 billion dollars to build electric cars in the United States, as part of revealing its plans during the coming period, as the company is set to invest a new billion dollars in its factory in Spartanburg, South Carolina.


In addition to the $1 billion plant in Spartanburg, the company said it would spend $700 million on a new facility to assemble high-voltage batteries in nearby Woodruff, South Carolina .This creates new opportunities for employment.





In this regard, Oliver Zipps, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the BMW Group, told Reuters, that this is the largest single investment made by the company in its history, and this was confirmed by the Governor of South Carolina, Henry McMaster, who said that the capital investment of BMW  is the largest in state history.


BMW added that AESC, a subsidiary of China's renewable energy group, plans to build a new battery cell plant in South Carolina with an annual capacity of 30 gigawatt-hours to supply the automaker, which is in line with the German company's plans to build at least six all-electric models of BMW. in the United States by 2030.


BMW explained that its new battery format will increase energy density by more than 20%, improve charging speed and increase range by up to 30%. Four additional battery cell factories will also be built in Europe and China to meet its needs, with the capacity of each of the cell factories being built By company partners up to 20 gigawatt-hours per year.
